Ethos
Cultivating and caring for creation is at the heart of what we are called to do—we are striving to create an abundant place where all the inhabitants at Trelowen thrive; from people, to plants, to the wildlife and life too small to see. All is connected, all is important. We are here to steward this land, we are here to love it and others.
What we stand for
We stand for regeneration — sustainable practises are not enough.
We understand that diversity leads to resilience.
We value the spirit of this place.
We are ecologically responsible in our choices of resources and packaging.
We reject the use of synthetic chemical pesticides and herbicides instead opting for natural remedies, increased biodiversity and biodynamic preparations.
Cultivating the land
Our land in the past was an Orchard, in more recent years improved agricultural grassland for grazing organic beef herds, more recently taking a cut for silage. So we are starting from a better 'bare-field' than many conventionally managed fields.
We will be peat-free in our seed sowing substrates. Using green manures, Biodynamic preparations, compost teas, home-made compost and woodchip.
We aim to continue our practises of No-Dig growing on this new site, keeping the soil covered at all times, with living roots in the soil, with minimal soil disturbance, applying underplanted companion planting where appropriate.
Animals
We will be incorporating animals to the farm, starting with our existing flock of chickens, adding ducks for the slugs and geese to keep the grass down.
Longer term the plan is to invite some smaller heritage breeds with four legs onto the farm—watch this space.
Florists & Floral Designers
We would be delighted to hear from florists and floral designers wanting to source locally grown flowers. Each week from 2025 we plan to send out our weekly availability list, detailing what is available: colours, stem length and price.
