Trelowen Flower Farm: Our Journey and Place of Joy

Trelowen Flower Farm: Our Story and Place of Joy Our Trelowen flower farm will be a small-scale cut flower farm and floristry business, forming part of Orchard Park’s cluster of smallholdings. This initiative is enabled by the Ecological Land Cooperative, who recently purchased the land from the Horrels family. The farm represents a dream come true, allowing us to cultivate flowers sustainably while contributing to the cooperative community. The name “Trelowen” is Cornish for “Place of Joy,” and this truly reflects our vision for the farm. Our Trelowen flower farm is not only about growing beautiful flowers but also creating a joyful and welcoming space for visitors, volunteers, and the local community. From selecting the best crops to planning floristry arrangements, every step is infused with care, creativity, and sustainability. As part of Orchard Park’s smallholding cluster, our Trelowen flower farm benefits from a supportive network of like-minded stewards. We work cooperatively, sharing knowledge, tools, and resources, which allows us to focus on permaculture principles such as Care for People, Care for Planet, and Fair Share. These values guide both our farming practices and our community interactions. Our farm emphasizes sustainable cut flower production. By choosing appropriate crops, preparing the soil responsibly, and nurturing biodiversity, our Trelowen flower farm ensures healthy growth and long-term soil fertility. We also aim to integrate floristry education and workshops into the farm, encouraging others to connect with the land and learn about ecological flower farming. Through this journal, we document our journey at Trelowen flower farm, from land preparation and planting to harvest and floristry creation. Our story highlights the importance of sustainability, cooperative living, and creating a space of joy and beauty in Cornwall.
